About Constance
Born in Jamaica, Connie was the youngest of four children. Her mother was a dressmaker, whose “family tree goes back to expert dressmakers,” and her father a tailor, who “made the finest clothing for his clients and his children.” In Jamaica, she recounts, children were taught to sew at an early age. She did just that, sewing her first skirt at nine years old. “God has given me a gift; through him I have excelled and I really love what I do.”
In 1965 Connie decided to emigrate to the United States. She attended fashion school and got a diploma. Early on an assistant fashion designer in children’s wear, she later expanded into other parts of the textile industry, including custom couture and bridal, drapery and duplication. The mother of two girls, she made most of their clothes. To this day, she designs and sews outfits for family members: “My adorable grandson and his Dad wear my creations and are always complimented.”
In her spare time she enjoys reading, planting flowers, and listening to motivational speakers.
